Fitter Welder Apprentice — ($1,000 Sign-On Bonus)

Location: San Antonio, TX

Pay: $21 per hour (+8.5% shift differential for 2nd Shift) + $1,000 sign-on bonus

1st Shift Work Schedule:

  • Monday 7am – 3:30pm
  • Tuesday 5am – 3:30pm
  • Wednesday 5am – 3:30pm
  • Thursday 5am – 3:30pm
  • Friday 5am – 3:30pm
  • Saturday 5am – 1:30pm

2nd Shift Work Schedule:
12-hour shifts, 4 days per week – please see hours of operation below

  • Monday thru Friday 3:30pm – 4am

Work You Will Do:

  • Fitter Welder Apprentice will have the ability to apply minimum of 6 months of MIG welding experience into product.
  • Operate Miller Aluma Pro Mig gun. Successfully apply fit up, fabricate, and weld discipline into standard models.
  • Operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as GMAW and Plasma Cutter.
  • Operate manual and semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment.
  • Maintain safe work practices.
  • Conduct technical inspections
  • Read and review blueprints and specifications; ensure drawings and specifications will function as designed in environment intended for use.
  • Complete motor coupling installations.
  • Participate in training program as trainee/trainer as required
  • Other assigned work as required.

Job Requirements:

Required:

  • Minimum of 6 months of MIG Alloy and Steel welding experience.
  • High School Diploma, GED or certifications.
  • Have successfully passed 2G plate welding test and 6G short arc pipe welding test within Johnson Controls – San Antonio.
  • The use of various hand tools, machinery and equipment will be required to manufacture metal.
  • Standard blueprint knowledge.
  • Required to have strong knowledge and skill in operating all metalworking machinery.
  • Required to read and understand production drawings, blueprints, work orders and other written instructions.

Preferred:

  • Welding technical school certification.
  • GMAW experience.
  • Tig welding experience.
  • 1+ years’ experience as a welder.
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations.
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in diverse working environments.
  • Able to work well under pressure.
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally always.
